Using building materials from renewable resources and well as limiting the amount of construction waste is a philosophical priority as well as a daily challenge for Cottage Werks.
Much of the wood products used in their homes come from rapidly renewable resources found here in the Northwest such as the maple wood which is often used for flooring and counter topping.
Cottage Werks rarely has scrap material to throw away. By limiting their over purchasing of wood and a little bit of well thought out planning they have been able to greatly reduce the amount of construction scrap they generate.
Many of their homes are shingled with native cedar, a material with high functional value in our wet climate. The shingles are milled from farmed trees rather than old growth forests. These shingles come pre-packaged and can be purchased in small quantities which helps reduce product waste.
